Getting your post indexed by Google in 1 day

by Vishal Sanjay on February 12, 2010

  • Sharebar

Google always has a special love for blogs and usually my posts get indexed by Google in just 10 hours after posting, but recently I’ve received many mails from my readers telling me that Google has not indexed their posts or its not indexing any of their latest posts, so after some research on other blogs and in Google’s webmaster policies I made up a few points which I think would help you get indexed by within just a few hours.

There are many theories online on how Google indexes each blog and its posts and what makes it favorable towards one and not the others, but till now the simplest way I’ve done is to get links from other blogs and sites, but that doesn’t seem to work for some and others who have not yet tarted to get links from other blogs, so the list below contains some free and easy ways to get your post into Google.

Submit a sitemap

One of the most effective ways to get indexed is to let Google know about your latest update and force it to come and see it, for this Google has set up the Google Webmaster Tools which helps webmasters manage and analyze their sites performance on the web, just verify your site and submit your site.

Now while creating your site map is a concern you can try the xml sitemap plugin for wordpress which is what I use, as it gets constantly updated whenever I make changes or write a new post, another way is to create it manually on your own, which is not very advisable as it can be too time consuming and hard to do so.

If your blog is not hosted on your own and is hosted on platforms such as blogger or WordPress (Hosted) then you won’t be able to upload your sitemap into your blog and link to it from Google Webmasters account, so in that case you can use your blog’s feed (not feedburner) as a sitemap.

Social bookmarking – Digg, Mixx, StumbleUpon

As I mentioned the simplest explanation of how Google indexes your pages is getting links form other blogs or sites which have already been indexed, so for those who find it difficult to get linked from any blog or website the best thing to do would be to use social media sites which are indexed in Google.

According to me Digg, Mixx and StumbleUpon are the best social bookmarking sites to gain the first backlinks for your latest posts, as soon as you or someone bookmarks your post, your post on these sites will start appearing in google searches, and as social media sites frequently updated, most of Google’s spiders remain active there and many of them also visit your post to aggregate and index it.

I have found many more social bookmarking sites indexed in Google searches, but till now the above 3 are my favorite and the most efficient, although StumbleUpon doesn’t get indexed until you get a few positive ratings on your StumbleUpon submission.

Forum posting

As soon as I write a post another thing I usually do is post a new thread on some webmaster forums, I usually post the same heading as my post and write a short summary with a link to my post, but in some forums like Digital Point I’m used to post my entire article as a thread with plenty of backlinks to other articles of my blog including the particular post, this can generate traffic for days, but most forums don’t allow this and you may get banned.

Signature links are no longer indexed by Google, so a small signature link below your posts will not get you indexed, so thats why find some forums in your niche which allows users to self –  promote and are well indexed by search engines.

Get blogs to link to you

As usual good quality content plays a role in this, you’ll have to write magnetic content which makes other bloggers and webmasters link to your post. In the past few days many bloggers have linked to my posts in any of their posts or from their blogs, as usual traffic was a big gift, but something else was that the posts which got a number of links from other blogs always got indexed very soon and also started to provide me with some constant search engine traffic.

When your blog has very less traffic then you have very less chances of getting links from other bloggers even when your content is really appealing, at this situation old contacts and networking has its advantages, what I mean is go and ask a friend for backlink to your site, just make sure you return the favor afterwards or before asking him for one.

Blog and feed directories

Feed and blog directories are sites which pull out new content from your blog and are constantly indexed by search engines, so this will definitely give you a few hundred backlinks for sure and will make your indexing faster than expected. I have sat for hours submitting my blog to feed and blog directories and I think my effort has payed off, you can hire someone to manually submit your blog to these directories or you can use a professional auto submitter.

I recently found this list of blog directories and feed directories which can be of great use.

On to our readers

The theory of getting indexed is similar to that of driving search engine traffic, the same methods are used for getting listed in Google and for climbing the page rank. There are many other factors which determines why, when and how your site will be indexed by Google, many of them are complicated and some are not yet let out by Google. In case if any of you have a tip to share or have a feedback on my post, please go ahead below.

I am currently 2 days into getting my blog indexed and still no luck. I’ve got quite a few do-follow comments, a couple of major directory listings, so I think I will have to turn my attention to social media.

It does take time sometimes, but keep trying. Submitting a sitemap is very important so don’t forget that.

Thanks for commenting.

Not a bad post. But I get my blog posts indexed on Google in less than 5 minutes after I have posted it :) That’s no lie.

Kharim, not hard to believe, typically my site gets indexed in about 30 seconds. Then again we get thousands of social media mentions so I think that helps, especially as search engines go more semantic.

I don’t know if it happens again. Normally a blogspot or wordpress.com get indexed very quickly by Google. But not with my blogspot site. Although I have do some linking from my existing other blog, pinging and commenting.

Is it a bug, or Google has changed again the way they indexing. Any updates, please? Thanks so much

Howdy would you mind letting me know which webhost you’re working with? I’ve loaded your blog in 3 completely different web browsers and I must say this blog loads a lot quicker then most. Can you suggest a good internet hosting provider at a reasonable price? Cheers, I appreciate it!
