Most of the adult sites that are free to use are tough to monetize, as the key audience for such sites will be 14 – 25 and most of them won’t have a credit card and rarely click on ads. This is the method used by most of the adult sites and many of them make millions every month, but this requires premium and well quality content, staff and technology which can take thousands of dollars of investment. So this is not an option for small webmasters, but you can use this method if you have a unique idea and something that would not cost much. You’ll have to have an affiliate program and you’ll also be required to advertise of other sites.

The best way to promote your site will be to make short trailers and summaries of your content and post it on all social sharing sites and let your visitors see this content for free and persuade them to pay for the full version.

Adult sites usually get the most public donations and many webmasters make thousands from that. But if your planning to take public donations make sure you don’t put too many ads on your site and good quality content for free is what your audience would admire. Your audience will definitely donate small amounts of money to keep your site running, but in case you stop updating your site, your going to face a lot of ire.

Your not likely to make money like how Wikipedia does, so don’t ever depend on this for meeting your expenses unless your site is a really popular hub in the industry.
